Hing is an Indian spice with a unique and pungent flavour. Ground hing is generally cut with rice flour, and is less potent. To release the true flavor of hing, you have to sauté it in oil or ghee. A pinch of ground hing goes a long way and it should be used sparingly.Hing and mustard seeds sautéed in ghee are often poured over cooked lentils for aroma and flavour and along with other spices, can be used to season vegetables or to make fruit chutneys.

It is impossible to purchase asafoetida locally around here. I am glad I could buy it online. The prices were good and fast shipping.

I enjoy my Asafoetida with rice and beans and it actually gives a bit of that Indian feel. I think it also helps with digestion.
